Most pantries fail for the same reason: things get pushed to the back, forgotten, and bought again. The fix isn't more shelving, it's visibility and zones.
Start by emptying everything onto the counter and grouping it by category: breakfast, baking, snacks, canned goods, pasta and grains, oils and sauces. Toss anything expired and set aside unopened items you won't use for a food bank.
Put what you reach for daily at eye level, heavy and bulk items on the bottom, and backstock up high. Kids' snacks belong on a shelf they can reach, so they're not climbing.
Only then buy containers, and measure first. Clear bins for snacks, airtight canisters for cereal and pasta, and risers for cans keep everything visible. Label the shelf or the bin, not just the jar, so everyone puts things back in the same place.
